1 ἐν τῷ πρώτῳ ἔτει Δαρείου τοῦ υἱοῦ Ασουηρου ἀπὸ τοῦ σπέρματος τῶν Μήδων ὃς ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ βασιλείαν Χαλδαίων 2 ἐν ἔτει ἑνὶ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ ἐγὼ Δανιηλ συνῆκα ἐν ταῖς βύβλοις τὸν ἀριθμὸν τῶν ἐτῶν ὃς ἐγενήθη λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν τὸν προφήτην εἰς συμπλήρωσιν ἐρημώσεως Ιερουσαλημ ἑβδομήκοντα ἔτη 3 καὶ ἔδωκα τὸ πρόσωπόν μου πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι προσευχὴν καὶ δεήσεις ἐν νηστείαις καὶ σάκκῳ καὶ σποδῷ 1 In the first year of Darius, the son of Assuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who reigned over the kingdom of the Chaldeans: 2 The first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by books the number of the years, concerning which the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, the prophet, that seventy years should be accomplished of the desolation of Jerusalem. 3 And I set my face to the Lord, my God, to pray and make supplication with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes. 1 In anno primo Darii filii Assueri de semine Medorum, qui imperavit super regnum Chaldæorum, 2 anno uno regni ejus, ego Daniel intellexi in libris numerum annorum, de quo factus est sermo Domini ad Jeremiam prophetam, ut complerentur desolationis Jerusalem septuaginta anni. 3 Et posui faciem meam ad Dominum Deum meum rogare et deprecari in jejuniis, sacco, et cinere.
4 καὶ προσηυξάμην πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεόν μου καὶ ἐξωμολογησάμην καὶ εἶπα κύριε ὁ θεὸς ὁ μέγας καὶ θαυμαστὸς ὁ φυλάσσων τὴν διαθήκην σου καὶ τὸ ἔλεος τοῖς ἀγαπῶσίν σε καὶ τοῖς φυλάσσουσιν τὰς ἐντολάς σου 5 ἡμάρτομεν ἠδικήσαμεν ἠνομήσαμεν καὶ ἀπέστημεν καὶ ἐξεκλίναμεν ἀπὸ τῶν ἐντολῶν σου καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν κριμάτων σου 6 καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν τῶν δούλων σου τῶν προφητῶν οἳ ἐλάλουν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου πρὸς τοὺς βασιλεῖς ἡμῶν καὶ ἄρχοντας ἡμῶν καὶ πατέρας ἡμῶν καὶ πρὸς πάντα τὸν λαὸν τῆς γῆς 7 σοί κύριε ἡ δικαιοσύνη καὶ ἡμῖν ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἀνδρὶ Ιουδα καὶ τοῖς ἐνοικοῦσιν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ παντὶ Ισραηλ τοῖς ἐγγὺς καὶ τοῖς μακρὰν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ οὗ διέσπειρας αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ ἐν ἀθεσίᾳ αὐτῶν ᾗ ἠθέτησαν ἐν σοί 8 κύριε ἡμῖν ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου καὶ τοῖς βασιλεῦσιν ἡμῶν καὶ τοῖς ἄρχουσιν ἡμῶν καὶ τοῖς πατράσιν ἡμῶν οἵτινες ἡμάρτομέν σοι 9 τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ ἡμῶν οἱ οἰκτιρμοὶ καὶ οἱ ἱλασμοί ὅτι ἀπέστημεν 10 καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν πορεύεσθαι ἐν τοῖς νόμοις αὐτοῦ οἷς ἔδωκεν κατὰ πρόσωπον ἡμῶν ἐν χερσὶν τῶν δούλων αὐτοῦ τῶν προφητῶν 11 καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ παρέβησαν τὸν νόμον σου καὶ ἐξέκλιναν τοῦ μὴ ἀκοῦσαι τῆς φωνῆς σου καὶ ἐπῆλθεν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς ἡ κατάρα καὶ ὁ ὅρκος ὁ γεγραμμένος ἐν νόμῳ Μωυσέως δούλου τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν αὐτῷ 12 καὶ ἔστησεν τοὺς λόγους αὐτοῦ οὓς ἐλάλησεν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κριτὰς ἡμῶν οἳ ἔκρινον ἡμᾶς ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς κακὰ μεγάλα οἷα οὐ γέγονεν ὑποκάτω παντὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατὰ τὰ γενόμενα ἐν Ιερουσαλημ 13 καθὼς γέγραπται ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωυσῆ πάντα τὰ κακὰ ταῦτα ἦλθεν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἐδεήθημεν τοῦ προσώπου κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἀποστρέψαι ἀπὸ τῶν ἀδικιῶν ἡμῶν καὶ τοῦ συνιέναι ἐν πάσῃ ἀληθείᾳ σου 14 καὶ ἐγρηγόρησεν κύριος καὶ ἐπήγαγεν αὐτὰ ἐφ' ἡμᾶς ὅτι δίκαιος κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ποίησιν αὐτοῦ ἣν ἐποίησεν καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ 15 καὶ νῦν κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν ὃς ἐξήγαγες τὸν λαόν σου ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν χειρὶ κραταιᾷ καὶ ἐποίησας σεαυτῷ ὄνομα ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἡμάρτομεν ἠνομήσαμεν 16 κύριε ἐν πάσῃ ἐλεημοσύνῃ σου ἀποστραφήτω δὴ ὁ θυμός σου καὶ ἡ ὀργή σου ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεώς σου Ιερουσαλημ ὄρους ἁγίου σου ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἀδικίαις ἡμῶν καὶ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ὁ λαός σου εἰς ὀνειδισμὸν ἐγένετο ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς περικύκλῳ ἡμῶν 17 καὶ νῦν εἰσάκουσον κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν τῆς προσευχῆς τοῦ δούλου σου καὶ τῶν δεήσεων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπίφανον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐπὶ τὸ ἁγίασμά σου τὸ ἔρημον ἕνεκέν σου κύριε 18 κλῖνον ὁ θεός μου τὸ οὖς σου καὶ ἄκουσον ἄνοιξον τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου καὶ ἰδὲ τὸν ἀφανισμὸν ἡμῶν καὶ τῆς πόλεώς σου ἐφ' ἧς ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐπ' αὐτῆς ὅτι οὐκ ἐπὶ ταῖς δικαιοσύναις ἡμῶν ἡμεῖς ῥιπτοῦμεν τὸν οἰκτιρμὸν ἡμῶν ἐνώπιόν σου ἀλλ' ἐπὶ τοὺς οἰκτιρμούς σου τοὺς πολλούς 19 κύριε εἰσάκουσον κύριε ἱλάσθητι κύριε πρόσχες καὶ ποίησον μὴ χρονίσῃς ἕνεκέν σου ὁ θεός μου ὅτι τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐπικέκληται ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου 4 And I prayed to the Lord, my God, and I made my confession, and said: I beseech you, O Lord God, great and terrible, who keeps the covenant, and mercy to them that love you, and keep your commandments. 5 We have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly, and have revolted: and we have gone aside from your commandments, and your judgments. 6 We have not hearkened to your servants, the prophets, that have spoken in your name to our kings, to our princes, to our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 To you, O Lord, justice: but to us confusion of face, as at this day to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, to them that are near, and to them that are far off, in all the countries whither you have driven them, for their iniquities, by which they have sinned against you. 8 O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our princes, and to our fathers, that have sinned. 9 But to you, the Lord our God, mercy and forgiveness, for we have departed from you: 10 And we have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord, our God, to walk in his law, which he set before us by his servants, the prophets. 11 And all Israel have transgressed your law, and have turned away from hearing your voice, and the malediction, and the curse, which is written in the book of Moses, the servant of God, is fallen upon us, because we have sinned against him. 12 And he has confirmed his words which he spoke against us, and against our princes that judged us, that he would bring in upon us a great evil, such as never was under all the heaven, according to that which has been done in Jerusalem. 13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us: and we entreated not your face, O Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and think on your truth. 14 And the Lord has watched upon the evil, and has brought it upon us: the Lord, our God, is just in all his works which he has done: for we have not hearkened to his voice. 15 And now, O Lord, our God, who have brought forth your people out of the land of Egypt, with a strong hand, and have made you a name as at this day: we have sinned, we have committed iniquity, 16 O Lord, against all your justice: let your wrath and your indignation be turned away, I beseech you, from your city, Jerusalem, and from your holy mountain. For by reason of our sins, and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem, and your people, are a reproach to all that are round about us. 17 Now, therefore, O our God, hear the supplication of your servant, and his prayers: and show your face upon your sanctuary, which is desolate, for your own sake. 18 Incline, O my God, your ear, and hear: open your eyes, and see our desolation, and the city upon which your name is called: for it is not for our justifications that we present our prayers before your face, but for the multitude of your tender mercies. 19 O Lord, hear: O Lord, be appeased: hearken, and do: delay not, for your own sake, O my God: because your name is invocated upon your city, and upon your people. 4 Et oravi Dominum Deum meum, et confessus sum, et dixi : Obsecro, Domine Deus magne et terribilis, custodiens pactum, et misericordiam diligentibus te, et custodientibus mandata tua: 5 peccavimus, iniquitatem fecimus, impie egimus, et recessimus : et declinavimus a mandatis tuis ac judiciis. 6 Non obedivimus servis tuis prophetis, qui locuti sunt in nomine tuo regibus nostris, principibus nostris, patribus nostris, omnique populo terræ. 7 Tibi, Domine, justitia : nobis autem confusio faciei, sicut est hodie viro Juda, et habitatoribus Jerusalem, et omni Israël, his qui prope sunt, et his qui procul in universis terris, ad quas ejecisti eos propter iniquitates eorum, in quibus peccaverunt in te. 8 Domine, nobis confusio faciei, regibus nostris, principibus nostris, et patribus nostris, qui peccaverunt. 9 Tibi autem Domino Deo nostro misericordia et propitiatio, quia recessimus a te, 10 et non audivimus vocem Domini Dei nostri ut ambularemus in lege ejus, quam posuit nobis per servos suos prophetas. 11 Et omnis Israël prævaricati sunt legem tuam, et declinaverunt ne audirent vocem tuam : et stillavit super nos maledictio et detestatio quæ scripta est in libro Moysi servi Dei, quia peccavimus ei. 12 Et statuit sermones suos, quos locutus est super nos et super principes nostros, qui judicaverunt nos, ut superinduceret in nos magnum malum, quale numquam fuit sub omni cælo, secundum quod factum est in Jerusalem. 13 Sicut scriptum est in lege Moysi, omne malum hoc venit super nos : et non rogavimus faciem tuam, Domine Deus noster, ut reverteremur ab iniquitatibus nostris, et cogitaremus veritatem tuam. 14 Et vigilavit Dominus super malitiam, et adduxit eam super nos. Justus Dominus Deus noster in omnibus operibus suis, quæ fecit : non enim audivimus vocem ejus. 15 Et nunc Domine Deus noster, qui eduxisti populum tuum de terra Ægypti in manu forti, et fecisti tibi nomen secundum diem hanc : peccavimus, iniquitatem fecimus. 16 Domine, in omnem justitiam tuam avertatur, obsecro, ira tua et furor tuus a civitate tua Jerusalem, et monte sancto tuo. Propter peccata enim nostra, et iniquitates patrum nostrorum, Jerusalem et populus tuus in opprobrium sunt omnibus per circuitum nostrum. 17 Nunc ergo exaudi, Deus noster, orationem servi tui, et preces ejus : et ostende faciem tuam super sanctuarium tuum, quod desertum est propter temetipsum. 18 Inclina, Deus meus, aurem tuam, et audi : aperi oculos tuos, et vide desolationem nostram, et civitatem super quam invocatum est nomen tuum : neque enim in justificationibus nostris prosternimus preces ante faciem tuam, sed in miserationibus tuis multis. 19 Exaudi, Domine; placare Domine : attende et fac : ne moreris propter temetipsum, Deus meus, quia nomen tuum invocatum est super civitatem et super populum tuum.
20 καὶ ἔτι ἐμοῦ λαλοῦντος καὶ προσευχομένου καὶ ἐξαγορεύοντος τὰς ἁμαρτίας μου καὶ τὰς ἁμαρτίας τοῦ λαοῦ μου Ισραηλ καὶ ῥιπτοῦντος τὸν ἔλεόν μου ἐναντίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ μου περὶ τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ ἁγίου τοῦ θεοῦ μου 21 καὶ ἔτι ἐμοῦ λαλοῦντος ἐν τῇ προσευχῇ καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἀνὴρ Γαβριηλ ὃν εἶδον ἐν τῇ ὁράσει ἐν τῇ ἀρχῇ πετόμενος καὶ ἥψατό μου ὡσεὶ ὥραν θυσίας ἑσπερινῆς 22 καὶ συνέτισέν με καὶ ἐλάλησεν μετ' ἐμοῦ καὶ εἶπεν Δανιηλ νῦν ἐξῆλθον συμβιβάσαι σε σύνεσιν 23 ἐν ἀρχῇ τῆς δεήσεώς σου ἐξῆλθεν λόγος καὶ ἐγὼ ἦλθον τοῦ ἀναγγεῖλαί σοι ὅτι ἀνὴρ ἐπιθυμιῶν σὺ εἶ καὶ ἐννοήθητι ἐν τῷ ῥήματι καὶ σύνες ἐν τῇ ὀπτασίᾳ 24 ἑβδομήκοντα ἑβδομάδες συνετμήθησαν ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἁγίαν σου τοῦ συντελεσθῆναι ἁμαρτίαν καὶ τοῦ σφραγίσαι ἁμαρτίας καὶ ἀπαλεῖψαι τὰς ἀνομίας καὶ τοῦ ἐξιλάσασθαι ἀδικίας καὶ τοῦ ἀγαγεῖν δικαιοσύνην αἰώνιον καὶ τοῦ σφραγίσαι ὅρασιν καὶ προφήτην καὶ τοῦ χρῖσαι ἅγιον ἁγίων 25 καὶ γνώσῃ καὶ συνήσεις ἀπὸ ἐξόδου λόγου τοῦ ἀποκριθῆναι καὶ τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι Ιερουσαλημ ἕως χριστοῦ ἡγουμένου ἑβδομάδες ἑπτὰ καὶ ἑβδομάδες ἑξήκοντα δύο καὶ ἐπιστρέψει καὶ οἰκοδομηθήσεται πλατεῖα καὶ τεῖχος καὶ ἐκκενωθήσονται οἱ καιροί 26 καὶ μετὰ τὰς ἑβδομάδας τὰς ἑξήκοντα δύο ἐξολεθρευθήσεται χρῖσμα καὶ κρίμα οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ τὴν πόλιν καὶ τὸ ἅγιον διαφθερεῖ σὺν τῷ ἡγουμένῳ τῷ ἐρχομένῳ καὶ ἐκκοπήσονται ἐν κατακλυσμῷ καὶ ἕως τέλους πολέμου συντετμημένου τάξει ἀφανισμοῖς 27 καὶ δυναμώσει διαθήκην πολλοῖς ἑβδομὰς μία καὶ ἐν τῷ ἡμίσει τῆς ἑβδομάδος ἀρθήσεταί μου θυσία καὶ σπονδή καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἱερὸν βδέλυγμα τῶν ἐρημώσεων καὶ ἕως συντελείας καιροῦ συντέλεια δοθήσεται ἐπὶ τὴν ἐρήμωσιν 20 Now while I was yet speaking, and praying, and confessing my sins, and the sins of my people of Israel, and presenting my supplications in the sight of my God, for the holy mountain of my God: 21 As I was yet speaking in prayer, behold the man, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, flying swiftly, touched me at the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 And he instructed me, and spoke to me, and said: O Daniel, I am now come forth to teach you, and that you might understand. 23 From the beginning of your prayers the word came forth: and I have come to show it to you, because you are a man of desires: therefore, do thou mark the word, and understand the vision. 24 Seventy weeks are shortened upon your people, and upon your holy city, that transgression may be finished, and sin may have an end, and iniquity may be abolished; and everlasting justice may be brought; and vision and prophecy may be fulfilled; and the Saint of saints may be anointed. 25 Know, therefore, and take notice: that from the going forth of the word, to build up Jerusalem again, unto Christ, the prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: and the street shall be built again, and the walls, in straitness of times. 26 And after sixty-two weeks Christ shall be slain: and the people that shall deny him shall not be his. And a people, with their leader, that shall come, shall destroy the city, and the sanctuary: and the end thereof shall be waste, and after the end of the war the appointed desolation. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many, in one week: and in the half of the week the victim and the sacrifice shall fail: and there shall be in the temple the abomination of desolation: and the desolation shall continue even to the consummation, and to the end. 20 Cumque adhuc loquerer, et orarem, et confiterer peccata mea, et peccata populi mei Israël, et prosternerem preces meas in conspectu Dei mei, pro monte sancto Dei mei: 21 adhuc me loquente in oratione, ecce vir Gabriel, quem videram in visione a principio, cito volans tetigit me in tempore sacrificii vespertini. 22 Et docuit me, et locutus est mihi, dixitque : Daniel, nunc egressus sum ut docerem te, et intelligeres. 23 Ab exordio precum tuarum egressus est sermo : ego autem veni ut indicarem tibi, quia vir desideriorum es : tu ergo animadverte sermonem, et intellige visionem. 24 Septuaginta hebdomades abbreviatæ sunt super populum tuum et super urbem sanctam tuam, ut consummetur prævaricatio, et finem accipiat peccatum, et deleatur iniquitas, et adducatur justitia sempiterna, et impleatur visio et prophetia, et ungatur Sanctus sanctorum. 25 Scito ergo, et animadverte : ab exitu sermonis, ut iterum ædificetur Jerusalem, usque ad christum ducem, hebdomades septem, et hebdomades sexaginta duæ erunt : et rursum ædificabitur platea, et muri in angustia temporum. 26 Et post hebdomades sexaginta duas occidetur christus : et non erit ejus populus qui eum negaturus est. Et civitatem et sanctuarium dissipabit populus cum duce venturo : et finis ejus vastitas, et post finem belli statuta desolatio. 27 Confirmabit autem pactum multis hebdomada una : et in dimidio hebdomadis deficiet hostia et sacrificium : et erit in templo abominatio desolationis : et usque ad consummationem et finem perseverabit desolatio.
