| 1 καὶ ἐγένετο μεθ' ἡμέρας πλείους μετὰ τὸ καταπαῦσαι κύριον τὸν Ισραηλ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν κυκλόθεν καὶ Ἰησοῦς πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς ταῖς ἡμέραις 2 καὶ συνεκάλεσεν Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ καὶ τὴν γερουσίαν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς δικαστὰς αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς ἐγὼ γεγήρακα καὶ προβέβηκα ταῖς ἡμέραις 3 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἑωράκατε ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν τούτοις ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ὅτι κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ὁ ἐκπολεμήσας ὑμῖν 4 ἴδετε ὅτι ἐπέρριφα ὑμῖν τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ὑμῖν ταῦτα ἐν τοῖς κλήροις εἰς τὰς φυλὰς ὑμῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ Ιορδάνου πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ἐξωλέθρευσα καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης ὁριεῖ ἐπὶ δυσμὰς ἡλίου 5 κύριος δὲ ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν οὗτος ἐξολεθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ἕως ἂν ἀπόλωνται καὶ ἀποστελεῖ αὐτοῖς τὰ θηρία τὰ ἄγρια ἕως ἂν ἐξολεθρεύσῃ αὐτοὺς καὶ τοὺς βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ κατακληρονομήσατε τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν καθὰ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ὑμῖν 6 κατισχύσατε οὖν σφόδρα φυλάσσειν καὶ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου Μωυσῆ ἵνα μὴ ἐκκλίνητε εἰς δεξιὰν ἢ εὐώνυμα 7 ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ταῦτα καὶ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν θεῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ὀνομασθήσεται ἐν ὑμῖν οὐδὲ μὴ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς οὐδὲ μὴ λατρεύσητε αὐτοῖς 8 ἀλλὰ κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν προσκολληθήσεσθε καθάπερ ἐποιήσατε ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης 9 καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσεν αὐτοὺς κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ἔθνη μεγάλα καὶ ἰσχυρά καὶ ὑμῖν οὐθεὶς ἀντέστη κατενώπιον ὑμῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης 10 εἷς ὑμῶν ἐδίωξεν χιλίους ὅτι κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν ἐξεπολέμει ὑμῖν καθάπερ εἶπεν ὑμῖν 11 καὶ φυλάξασθε σφόδρα τοῦ ἀγαπᾶν κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν 12 ἐὰν γὰρ ἀποστραφῆτε καὶ προσθῆσθε τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν ἔθνεσιν τούτοις τοῖς μεθ' ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπιγαμίας ποιήσητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ συγκαταμιγῆτε αὐτοῖς καὶ αὐτοὶ ὑμῖν 13 γινώσκετε ὅτι οὐ μὴ προσθῇ κύριος τοῦ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη ταῦτα ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν καὶ ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς παγίδας καὶ εἰς σκάνδαλα καὶ εἰς ἥλους ἐν ταῖς πτέρναις ὑμῶν καὶ εἰς βολίδας ἐν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ἕως ἂν ἀπόλησθε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης ἣν ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν 14 ἐγὼ δὲ ἀποτρέχω τὴν ὁδὸν καθὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ γνώσεσθε τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν καὶ τῇ ψυχῇ ὑμῶν διότι οὐ διέπεσεν εἷς λόγος ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν λόγων ὧν εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν πρὸς πάντα τὰ ἀνήκοντα ὑμῖν οὐ διεφώνησεν ἐξ αὐτῶν 15 καὶ ἔσται ὃν τρόπον ἥκει ἐφ' ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ καλά ἃ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς ὑμᾶς οὕτως ἐπάξει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐφ' ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τὰ πονηρά ἕως ἂν ἐξολεθρεύσῃ ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης ἧς ἔδωκεν κύριος ὑμῖν 16 ἐν τῷ παραβῆναι ὑμᾶς τὴν διαθήκην κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν ἣν ἐνετείλατο ὑμῖν καὶ πορευθέντες λατρεύσητε θεοῖς ἑτέροις καὶ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς | 1 And when a long time was passed, after that the Lord had given peace to Israel, all the nations round about being subdued and Joshua being now old, and far advanced in years: 2 Joshua called for all Israel, and for the elders, and for the princes, and for the judges, and for the masters, and said to them: I am old, and far advanced in years, 3 and you see all that the Lord your God has done to all the nations round about, how he himself has fought for you: 4 And now since he has divided to you by lot all the land, from the east of the Jordan unto the great sea, and many nations yet remain: 5 The Lord your God will destroy them, and take them away from before your face, and you shall possess the land as he has promised you. 6 Only take courage, and be careful to observe all things that are written in the book of the law of Moses: and turn not aside from them neither to the right hand nor to the left: 7 Lest after that you have come in among the Gentiles, who will remain among you, you should swear by the name of their gods, and serve them, and adore them: 8 But cleave unto the Lord your God, as you have done until this day. 9 And then the Lord God will take away before your eyes nations that are great and very strong, and no man shall be able to resist you. 10 One of you shall chase a thousand men of the enemies: because the Lord your God himself will fight for you, as he has promised. 11 This only take care of with all diligence, that you love the Lord your God. 12 But if you will embrace the errors of these nations that dwell among you, and make marriages with them, and join friendships: 13 Know for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face, but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumbling-block at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he has given you. 14 Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth, and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one has failed, 15 therefore as he has fulfilled in deed, what he promised, and all things prosperous have come: so will he bring upon you all the evils he has threatened, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he has given you, 16 when you shall have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he has made with you, and shall have served strange gods, and adored them: then shall the indignation of the Lord rise up quickly and speedily against you, and you shall be taken away from this excellent land, which he has delivered to you. | 1 Evoluto autem multo tempore, postquam pacem dederat Dominus Israëli, subjectis in gyro nationibus universis, et Josue jam longævo, et persenilis ætatis, 2 vocavit Josue omnem Israëlem, majoresque natu, et principes ac duces, et magistros, dixitque ad eos : Ego senui, et progressioris ætatis sum: 3 vosque cernitis omnia, quæ fecerit Dominus Deus vester cunctis per circuitum nationibus, quomodo pro vobis ipse pugnaverit: 4 et nunc quia vobis sorte divisit omnem terram, ab orientali parte Jordanis usque ad mare magnum, multæque adhuc supersunt nationes: 5 Dominus Deus vester disperdet eas et auferet a facie vestra, et possidebitis terram, sicut vobis pollicitus est. 6 Tantum confortamini, et estote solliciti, ut custodiatis cuncta quæ scripta sunt in volumine legis Moysi : et non declinetis ab eis neque ad dexteram neque ad sinistram: 7 ne postquam intraveritis ad gentes quæ inter vos futuræ sunt, juretis in nomine deorum earum, et serviatis eis, et adoretis illos: 8 sed adhæreatis Domino Deo vestro : quod fecistis usque in diem hanc. 9 Et tunc auferet Dominus Deus in conspectu vestro gentes magnas et robustissimas, et nullus vobis resistere poterit. 10 Unus e vobis persequetur hostium mille viros : quia Dominus Deus vester pro vobis ipse pugnabit, sicut pollicitus est. 11 Hoc tantum diligentissime præcavete : ut diligatis Dominum Deum vestrum. 12 Quod si volueritis gentium harum, quæ inter vos habitant, erroribus adhærere, et cum eis miscere connubia, atque amicitias copulare: 13 jam nunc scitote quod Dominus Deus vester non eas deleat ante faciem vestram, sed sint vobis in foveam ac laqueum, et offendiculum ex latere vestro, et sudes in oculis vestris, donec vos auferat atque disperdat de terra hac optima, quam tradidit vobis. 14 En ego hodie ingredior viam universæ terræ, et toto animo cognoscetis quod de omnibus verbis, quæ se Dominus præstiturum vobis esse pollicitus est, unum non præterierit incassum. 15 Sicut ergo implevit opere quod promisit, et prospera cuncta venerunt : sic adducet super vos quidquid malorum comminatus est, donec vos auferat atque disperdat de terra hac optima, quam tradidit vobis, 16 eo quod præterieritis pactum Domini Dei vestri, quod pepigit vobiscum, et servieritis diis alienis, ad adoraveritis eos : cito atque velociter consurget in vos furor Domini, et auferemini ab hac terra optima, quam tradidit vobis. |
