| 1 καὶ προσῆλθον πάντες οἱ ἡγεμόνες τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ Ιωαναν καὶ Αζαριας υἱὸς Μαασαιου καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου 2 πρὸς Ιερεμιαν τὸν προφήτην καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ πεσέτω δὴ τὸ ἔλεος ἡμῶν κατὰ πρόσωπόν σου καὶ πρόσευξαι πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεόν σου περὶ τῶν καταλοίπων τούτων ὅτι κατελείφθημεν ὀλίγοι ἀπὸ πολλῶν καθὼς οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου βλέπουσιν 3 καὶ ἀναγγειλάτω ἡμῖν κύριος ὁ θεός σου τὴν ὁδόν ᾗ πορευσόμεθα ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ λόγον ὃν ποιήσομεν 4 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ιερεμιας ἤκουσα ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ προσεύξομαι πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν κατὰ τοὺς λόγους ὑμῶν καὶ ἔσται ὁ λόγος ὃν ἂν ἀποκριθήσεται κύριος ἀναγγελῶ ὑμῖν οὐ μὴ κρύψω ἀφ' ὑμῶν ῥῆμα 5 καὶ αὐτοὶ εἶπαν τῷ Ιερεμια ἔστω κύριος ἐν ἡμῖν εἰς μάρτυρα δίκαιον καὶ πιστόν εἰ μὴ κατὰ πάντα τὸν λόγον ὃν ἂν ἀποστείλῃ σε κύριος πρὸς ἡμᾶς οὕτως ποιήσομεν 6 καὶ ἐὰν ἀγαθὸν καὶ ἐὰν κακόν τὴν φωνὴν κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν οὗ ἡμεῖς ἀποστέλλομέν σε πρὸς αὐτόν ἀκουσόμεθα ἵνα βέλτιον ἡμῖν γένηται ὅτι ἀκουσόμεθα τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν 7 καὶ ἐγενήθη μετὰ δέκα ἡμέρας ἐγενήθη λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν 8 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸν Ιωαναν καὶ τοὺς ἡγεμόνας τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου 9 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος 10 ἐὰν καθίσαντες καθίσητε ἐν τῇ γῇ ταύτῃ οἰκοδομήσω ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐ μὴ καθέλω καὶ φυτεύσω ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκτίλω ὅτι ἀναπέπαυμαι ἐπὶ τοῖς κακοῖς οἷς ἐποίησα ὑμῖν 11 μὴ φοβηθῆτε ἀπὸ προσώπου βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος οὗ ὑμεῖς φοβεῖσθε ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ μὴ φοβηθῆτε φησὶν κύριος ὅτι μεθ' ὑμῶν ἐγώ εἰμι τοῦ ἐξαιρεῖσθαι ὑμᾶς καὶ σῴζειν ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς αὐτοῦ 12 καὶ δώσω ὑμῖν ἔλεος καὶ ἐλεήσω ὑμᾶς καὶ ἐπιστρέψω ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν ὑμῶν 13 καὶ εἰ λέγετε ὑμεῖς οὐ μὴ καθίσωμεν ἐν τῇ γῇ ταύτῃ πρὸς τὸ μὴ ἀκοῦσαι φωνῆς κυρίου 14 ὅτι εἰς γῆν Αἰγύπτου εἰσελευσόμεθα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἴδωμεν πόλεμον καὶ φωνὴν σάλπιγγος οὐ μὴ ἀκούσωμεν καὶ ἐν ἄρτοις οὐ μὴ πεινάσωμεν καὶ ἐκεῖ οἰκήσομεν 15 διὰ τοῦτο ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἐὰν ὑμεῖς δῶτε τὸ πρόσωπον ὑμῶν εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ εἰσέλθητε ἐκεῖ κατοικεῖν 16 καὶ ἔσται ἡ ῥομφαία ἣν ὑμεῖς φοβεῖσθε ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῆς εὑρήσει ὑμᾶς ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ὁ λιμός οὗ ὑμεῖς λόγον ἔχετε ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ καταλήμψεται ὑμᾶς ὀπίσω ὑμῶν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ καὶ ἐκεῖ ἀποθανεῖσθε 17 καὶ ἔσονται πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι καὶ πάντες οἱ ἀλλογενεῖς οἱ θέντες τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν εἰς γῆν Αἰγύπτου ἐνοικεῖν ἐκεῖ ἐκλείψουσιν ἐν τῇ ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν τῷ λιμῷ καὶ οὐκ ἔσται αὐτῶν οὐθεὶς σῳζόμενος ἀπὸ τῶν κακῶν ὧν ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἐπ' αὐτούς 18 ὅτι οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος καθὼς ἔσταξεν ὁ θυμός μου ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ιερουσαλημ οὕτως στάξει ὁ θυμός μου ἐφ' ὑμᾶς εἰσελθόντων ὑμῶν εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἔσεσθε εἰς ἄβατον καὶ ὑποχείριοι καὶ εἰς ἀρὰν καὶ εἰς ὀνειδισμὸν καὶ οὐ μὴ ἴδητε οὐκέτι τὸν τόπον τοῦτον 19 ἃ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ἐφ' ὑμᾶς τοὺς καταλοίπους Ιουδα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ νῦν γνόντες γνώσεσθε 20 ὅτι ἐπονηρεύσασθε ἐν ψυχαῖς ὑμῶν ἀποστείλαντές με λέγοντες πρόσευξαι περὶ ἡμῶν πρὸς κύριον καὶ κατὰ πάντα ἃ ἐὰν λαλήσῃ σοι κύριος ποιήσομεν 21 καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς κυρίου ἧς ἀπέστειλέν με πρὸς ὑμᾶς 22 καὶ νῦν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν λιμῷ ἐκλείψετε ἐν τῷ τόπῳ οὗ ὑμεῖς βούλεσθε εἰσελθεῖν κατοικεῖν ἐκεῖ | 1 Then all the captains of the warriors, and Johanan the son of Caree, and Jezonias, the son of Osaias, and the rest of the people from the least to the greatest came near: 2 And they said to Jeremiah the prophet: Let our supplication fall before you: and pray for us to the Lord your God for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us. 3 And let the Lord your God show us the way by which we may walk, and the thing that we must do. 4 And Jeremiah the prophet said to them: I have heard you: behold I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words: and whatsoever thing he shall answer me, I will declare it to you: and I will hide nothing from you. 5 And they said to Jeremias: The Lord be witness between us of truth and faithfulness, if we do not according to everything for which the Lord your God shall send you to us. 6 Whether it be good or evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send you: that it may be well with us when we shall hearken to the voice of the Lord our God. 7 Now after ten days, the word of the Lord came to Jeremias. 8 And he called Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest. 9 And he said to them: Thus says the Lord the God of Israel, to whom you sent me, to present your supplications before him: 10 If you will be quiet and remain in this land, I will build you up, and not pull you down: I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for now I am appeased for the evil that I have done to you. 11 Fear not because of the king of Babylon, of whom you are greatly afraid: fear him not, says the Lord: for I am with you, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12 And I will show mercies to you, and will take pity on you, and will cause you to dwell in your own land. 13 But if you say: We will not dwell in this land, neither will we hearken to the voice of the Lord our God, 14 saying: No, but we will go into the land of Egypt: where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor suffer hunger: and there we will dwell. 15 For this now hear the word of the Lord, you remnant of Juda: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to go into Egypt, and enter in to dwell there: 16 The sword which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt: and the famine, whereof you are afraid, shall cleave to you in Egypt, and there you shall die. 17 And all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt, to dwell there, shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence: none of them shall remain, nor escape from the face of the evil that I will bring upon them. 18 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my indignation has been kindled against the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so shall my indignation be kindled against you, when you shall enter into Egypt, and you shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach: and you shall see this place no more. 19 This is the word of the Lord concerning you, O you remnant of Juda: Go not into Egypt: know certainly that I have adjured you this day. 20 For you have deceived your own souls: for you sent me to the Lord our God, saying: Pray for us to the Lord our God, and according to all that the Lord our God shall say to you, so declare unto us, and we will do it. 21 And now I have declared it to you this day, and you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God, with regard to all the things for which he has sent me to you. 22 Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence in the place to which you desire to go to dwell there. | 1 Et accesserunt omnes principes bellatorum, et Johanan filius Caree, et Jezonias filius Osaiæ, et reliquum vulgus, a parvo usque ad magnum, 2 dixeruntque ad Jeremiam prophetam : Cadat oratio nostra in conspectu tuo, et ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum tuum, pro universis reliquiis istis, quia derelicti sumus pauci de pluribus, sicut oculi tui nos intuentur: 3 et annuntiet nobis Dominus Deus tuus viam per quam pergamus, et verbum quod faciamus. 4 Dixit autem ad eos Jeremias propheta : Audivi. Ecce ego oro ad Dominum Deum vestrum secundum verba vestra : omne verbum quodcumque responderit mihi indicabo vobis, nec celabo vos quidquam. 5 Et illi dixerunt ad Jeremiam : Sit Dominus inter nos testis veritatis et fidei, si non juxta omne verbum in quo miserit te Dominus Deus tuus ad nos, sic faciemus: 6 sive bonum est, sive malum, voci Domini Dei nostri, ad quem mittimus te, obediemus, ut bene sit nobis cum audierimus vocem Domini Dei nostri. 7 Cum autem completi essent decem dies, factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam, 8 vocavitque Johanan filium Caree, et omnes principes bellatorum qui erant cum eo, et universum populum, a minimo usque ad magnum. 9 Et dixit ad eos : Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël, ad quem misistis me ut prosternerem preces vestras in conspectu ejus: 10 Si quiescentes manseritis in terra hac, ædificabo vos, et non destruam : plantabo, et non evellam : jam enim placatus sum super malo quod feci vobis. 11 Nolite timere a facie regis Babylonis, quem vos pavidi formidatis : nolite metuere eum, dicit Dominus, quia vobiscum sum ego ut salvos vos faciam, et eruam de manu ejus: 12 et dabo vobis misericordias, et miserebor vestri, et habitare vos faciam in terra vestra. 13 Si autem dixeritis vos : Non habitabimus in terra ista, nec audiemus vocem Domini Dei nostri, 14 dicentes : Nequaquam, sed ad terram Ægypti pergemus, ubi non videbimus bellum, et clangorem tubæ non audiemus, et famem non sustinebimus, et ibi habitabimus: 15 propter hoc nunc audite verbum Domini, reliquiæ Juda : Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Si posueritis faciem vestram ut ingrediamini Ægyptum, et intraveritis ut ibi habitetis, 16 gladius quem vos formidatis ibi comprehendet vos in terra Ægypti : et fames, pro qua estis solliciti, adhærebit vobis in Ægypto, et ibi moriemini. 17 Omnesque viri qui posuerunt faciem suam ut ingrediantur Ægyptum, ut habitent ibi, morientur gladio, et fame, et peste : nullus de eis remanebit, nec effugiet a facie mali quod ego afferam super eos. 18 Quia hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Sicut conflatus est furor meus et indignatio mea super habitatores Jerusalem, sic conflabitur indignatio mea super vos cum ingressi fueritis Ægyptum : et eritis in jusjurandum, et in stuporem, et in maledictum, et in opprobrium, et nequaquam ultra videbitis locum istum. 19 Verbum Domini super vos, reliquiæ Juda : Nolite intrare Ægyptum : scientes scietis, quia obtestatus sum vos hodie, 20 quia decepistis animas vestras. Vos enim misistis me ad Dominum Deum nostrum, dicentes : Ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum nostrum, et juxta omnia quæcumque dixerit tibi Dominus Deus noster, sic annuntia nobis, et faciemus. 21 Et annuntiavi vobis hodie, et non audistis vocem Domini Dei vestri super universis pro quibus misit me ad vos. 22 Nunc ergo scientes scietis quia gladio, et fame, et peste moriemini in loco ad quem voluistis intrare ut habitaretis ibi. |
