1 ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται τοῦ κυρίου καὶ διαμερισθήσεται τὰ σκῦλά σου ἐν σοί 2 καὶ ἐπισυνάξω πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ εἰς πόλεμον καὶ ἁλώσεται ἡ πόλις καὶ διαρπαγήσονται αἱ οἰκίαι καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες μολυνθήσονται καὶ ἐξελεύσεται τὸ ἥμισυ τῆς πόλεως ἐν αἰχμαλωσίᾳ οἱ δὲ κατάλοιποι τοῦ λαοῦ μου οὐ μὴ ἐξολεθρευθῶσιν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως 3 καὶ ἐξελεύσεται κύριος καὶ παρατάξεται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐκείνοις καθὼς ἡμέρα παρατάξεως αὐτοῦ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ πολέμου 4 καὶ στήσονται οἱ πόδες αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν τὸ κατέναντι Ιερουσαλημ ἐξ ἀνατολῶν καὶ σχισθήσεται τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν τὸ ἥμισυ αὐτοῦ πρὸς ἀνατολὰς καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ αὐτοῦ πρὸς θάλασσαν χάος μέγα σφόδρα καὶ κλινεῖ τὸ ἥμισυ τοῦ ὄρους πρὸς βορρᾶν καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ αὐτοῦ πρὸς νότον 5 καὶ ἐμφραχθήσεται φάραγξ ὀρέων μου καὶ ἐγκολληθήσεται φάραγξ ὀρέων ἕως Ιασολ καὶ ἐμφραχθήσεται καθὼς ἐνεφράγη ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τοῦ σεισμοῦ ἐν ἡμέραις Οζιου βασιλέως Ιουδα καὶ ἥξει κύριος ὁ θεός μου καὶ πάντες οἱ ἅγιοι μετ' αὐτοῦ 6 ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ οὐκ ἔσται φῶς καὶ ψῦχος καὶ πάγος 7 ἔσται μίαν ἡμέραν καὶ ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη γνωστὴ τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ οὐχ ἡμέρα καὶ οὐ νύξ καὶ πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἔσται φῶς 8 καὶ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐξελεύσεται ὕδωρ ζῶν ἐξ Ιερουσαλημ τὸ ἥμισυ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν πρώτην καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν ἐσχάτην καὶ ἐν θέρει καὶ ἐν ἔαρι ἔσται οὕτως 9 καὶ ἔσται κύριος εἰς βασιλέα ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἔσται κύριος εἷς καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἕν 10 κυκλῶν πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν καὶ τὴν ἔρημον ἀπὸ Γαβε ἕως Ρεμμων κατὰ νότον Ιερουσαλημ Ραμα δὲ ἐπὶ τόπου μενεῖ ἀπὸ τῆς πύλης Βενιαμιν ἕως τοῦ τόπου τῆς πύλης τῆς πρώτης ἕως τῆς πύλης τῶν γωνιῶν καὶ ἕως τοῦ πύργου Ανανεηλ ἕως τῶν ὑποληνίων τοῦ βασιλέως 11 κατοικήσουσιν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ἀνάθεμα ἔτι καὶ κατοικήσει Ιερουσαλημ πεποιθότως

1 Behold the days of the Lord shall come, and your spoils shall be divided in the midst of you. 2 And I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken, and the houses shall be rifled, and the women shall be defiled: and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the rest of the people shall not be taken away out of the city. 3 Then the Lord shall go forth, and shall fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is over against Jerusalem towards the east: and the mount of Olives shall be divided in the midst thereof to the east, and to the west with a very great opening, and half of the mountain shall be separated to the north, and half thereof to the south. 5 And you shall flee to the valley of those mountains, for the valley of the mountains shall be joined even to the next, and you shall flee as you fled from the face of the earthquake in the days of Ozias king of Juda: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with him. 6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall be no light, but cold and frost. 7 And there shall be one day, which is known to the Lord, not day nor night: and in the time of the evening there shall be light: 8 And it shall come to pass in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem: half of them to the east sea, and half of them to the last sea: they shall be in summer and in winter. 9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day there shall be one Lord, and his name shall be one. 10 And all the land shall return even to the desert, from the hill to Remmon to the south of Jerusalem: and she shall be exalted, and shall dwell in her own place, from the gate of Benjamin even to the place of the former gate, and even to the gate of the corners: and from the tower of Hananeel even to the king's winepresses. 11 And people shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more an anathema: but Jerusalem shall sit secure.

1 Ecce venient dies Domini, et dividentur spolia tua in medio tui. 2 Et congregabo omnes gentes ad Jerusalem in prælium : et capietur civitas, et vastabuntur domus, et mulieres violabuntur : et egredietur media pars civitatis in captivitatem, et reliquum populi non auferetur ex urbe. 3 Et egredietur Dominus, et præliabitur contra gentes illas, sicut præliatus est in die certaminis. 4 Et stabunt pedes ejus in die illa super montem Olivarum, qui est contra Jerusalem ad orientem : et scindetur mons Olivarum ex media parte sui ad orientem et ad occidentem, prærupto grandi valde : et separabitur medium montis ad aquilonem, et medium ejus ad meridiem. 5 Et fugietis ad vallem montium eorum, quoniam conjungetur vallis montium usque ad proximum : et fugietis sicut fugistis a facie terræmotus in diebus Oziæ regis Juda : et veniet Dominus Deus meus, omnesque sancti cum eo. 6 Et erit in die illa : non erit lux, sed frigus et gelu. 7 Et erit dies una quæ nota est Domino, non dies neque nox : et in tempore vesperi erit lux. 8 Et erit in die illa : exibunt aquæ vivæ de Jerusalem : medium earum ad mare orientale, et medium earum ad mare novissimum : in æstate et in hieme erunt. 9 Et erit Dominus rex super omnem terram : in die illa erit Dominus unus, et erit nomen ejus unum. 10 Et revertetur omnis terra usque ad desertum, de colle Remmon ad austrum Jerusalem : et exaltabitur, et habitabit in loco suo, a porta Benjamin usque ad locum portæ prioris, et usque ad portam angulorum, et a turre Hananeel usque ad torcularia regis. 11 Et habitabunt in ea, et anathema non erit amplius, sed sedebit Jerusalem secura.

I will gather, etc... This seems to be a prophecy of what was done by Antiochus. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
No light... Viz., in that dismal time of persecution of Antiochus, when it was neither day nor night (verse 7) because they neither had the comfortable light of the day, nor the repose of the night. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)

All the land shall return, etc... This, in some measure, was verified by the means of the Machabees: but is rather to be taken in a spiritual sense, as relating to the propagation of the church, and kingdom of Christ, the true Jerusalem, which alone shall never fall under the anathema of destruction, or God's curse. 12 καὶ αὕτη ἔσται ἡ πτῶσις ἣν κόψει κύριος πάντας τοὺς λαούς ὅσοι ἐπεστράτευσαν ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ τακήσονται αἱ σάρκες αὐτῶν ἑστηκότων αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ῥυήσονται ἐκ τῶν ὀπῶν αὐτῶν καὶ ἡ γλῶσσα αὐτῶν τακήσεται ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν 13 καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἔκστασις κυρίου ἐπ' αὐτοὺς μεγάλη καὶ ἐπιλήμψονται ἕκαστος τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ καὶ συμπλακήσεται ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ πρὸς χεῖρα τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ 14 καὶ ὁ Ιουδας παρατάξεται ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ συνάξει τὴν ἰσχὺν πάντων τῶν λαῶν κυκλόθεν χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ ἱματισμὸν εἰς πλῆθος σφόδρα 15 καὶ αὕτη ἔσται ἡ πτῶσις τῶν ἵππων καὶ τῶν ἡμιόνων καὶ τῶν καμήλων καὶ τῶν ὄνων καὶ πάντων τῶν κτηνῶν τῶν ὄντων ἐν ταῖς παρεμβολαῖς ἐκείναις κατὰ τὴν πτῶσιν ταύτην 16 καὶ ἔσται ὅσοι ἐὰν καταλειφθῶσιν ἐκ πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν ἐλθόντων ἐπὶ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἀναβήσονται κατ' ἐνιαυτὸν τοῦ προσκυνῆσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι καὶ τοῦ ἑορτάζειν τὴν ἑορτὴν τῆς σκηνοπηγίας 17 καὶ ἔσται ὅσοι ἐὰν μὴ ἀναβῶσιν ἐκ πασῶν τῶν φυλῶν τῆς γῆς εἰς Ιερουσαλημ τοῦ προσκυνῆσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι καὶ οὗτοι ἐκείνοις προστεθήσονται 18 ἐὰν δὲ φυλὴ Αἰγύπτου μὴ ἀναβῇ μηδὲ ἔλθῃ ἐκεῖ καὶ ἐπὶ τούτοις ἔσται ἡ πτῶσις ἣν πατάξει κύριος πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὅσα ἐὰν μὴ ἀναβῇ τοῦ ἑορτάσαι τὴν ἑορτὴν τῆς σκηνοπηγίας 19 αὕτη ἔσται ἡ ἁμαρτία Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἡ ἁμαρτία πάντων τῶν ἐθνῶν ὅσα ἂν μὴ ἀναβῇ τοῦ ἑορτάσαι τὴν ἑορτὴν τῆς σκηνοπηγίας 20 ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἔσται τὸ ἐπὶ τὸν χαλινὸν τοῦ ἵππου ἅγιον τῷ κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι καὶ ἔσονται οἱ λέβητες οἱ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ κυρίου ὡς φιάλαι πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου 21 καὶ ἔσται πᾶς λέβης ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐν τῷ Ιουδα ἅγιον τῷ κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι καὶ ἥξουσιν πάντες οἱ θυσιάζοντες καὶ λήμψονται ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ ἑψήσουσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ οὐκ ἔσται Χαναναῖος οὐκέτι ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ κυρίου παντοκράτορος ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ

12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord shall strike all nations that have fought against Jerusalem: the flesh of every one shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. 13 In that day there shall be a great tumult from the Lord among them: and a man shall take the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall be clasped upon his neighbour's hand. 14 And even Juda shall fight against Jerusalem: and the riches of all nations round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and garments in great abundance. 15 And the destruction of the horse, and of the mule, and of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts, that shall be in those tents, shall be like this destruction. 16 And all they that shall be left of all nations that came against Jerusalem, shall go up from year to year, to adore the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17 And it shall come to pass, that he that shall not go up of the families of the land to Jerusalem, to adore the King, the Lord of hosts, there shall be no rain upon them. 18 And if the family of Egypt go not up nor come: neither shall it be upon them, but there shall be destruction wherewith the Lord will strike all nations that will not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 19 This shall be the sin of Egypt, and this the sin of all nations, that will not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 20 In that day that which is upon the bridle of the horse shall be holy to the Lord: and the caldrons in the house of the Lord shall be as the phials before the altar. 21 And every caldron in Jerusalem and Juda shall be sanctified to the Lord of hosts: and all that sacrifice shall come, and take of them, and shall seethe in them: and the merchant shall be no more in the house of the Lord of hosts in that day.

12 Et hæc erit plaga qua percutiet Dominus omnes gentes quæ pugnaverunt adversus Jerusalem : tabescet caro uniuscujusque stantis super pedes suos : et oculi ejus contabescent in foraminibus suis, et lingua eorum contabescet in ore suo. 13 In die illa erit tumultus Domini magnus in eis : et apprehendet vir manum proximi sui, et conseretur manus ejus super manum proximi sui. 14 Sed et Judas pugnabit adversus Jerusalem : et congregabuntur divitiæ omnium gentium in circuitu, aurum, et argentum, et vestes multæ satis. 15 Et sic erit ruina equi, et muli, et cameli, et asini, et omnium jumentorum quæ fuerint in castris illis, sicut ruina hæc. 16 Et omnes qui reliqui fuerint de universis gentibus quæ venerunt contra Jerusalem, ascendent ab anno in annum ut adorent regem, Dominum exercituum, et celebrent festivitatem tabernaculorum. 17 Et erit : qui non ascenderit de familiis terræ ad Jerusalem ut adoret regem, Dominum exercituum, non erit super eos imber. 18 Quod etsi familia Ægypti non ascenderit et non venerit, nec super eos erit : sed erit ruina, qua percutiet Dominus omnes gentes quæ non ascenderint ad celebrandam festivitatem tabernaculorum. 19 Hoc erit peccatum Ægypti, et hoc peccatum omnium gentium quæ non ascenderint ad celebrandam festivitatem tabernaculorum. 20 In die illa, erit quod super frenum equi est, sanctum Domino : et erunt lebetes in domo Domini quasi phialæ coram altari. 21 Et erit omnis lebes in Jerusalem et in Juda sanctificatus Domino exercituum : et venient omnes immolantes, et sument ex eis, et coquent in eis : et non erit mercator ultra in domo Domini exercituum in die illo.

The flesh of every one shall consume, etc... Such judgments as these have often fallen upon the persecutors of God's church, as appears by many instances in history. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
Even Juda, etc... The carnal Jews, and other false brothers, shall join in persecuting the church. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
Shall be like this destruction... That is, the beasts shall be destroyed as well as the men: the common soldiers as well as their leaders. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
They that shall be left, etc... That is, many of them that persecuted the church shall be converted to its faith and communion. -- Ibid. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
To keep the feast of tabernacles... This feast was kept by the Jews in memory of their sojourning forty years in the desert, in their way to the land of promise. And in the spiritual sense is duly kept by all such Christians as in their earthly pilgrimage are continually advancing toward their true home, the heavenly Jerusalem; by the help of the sacraments and sacrifice of the church. And they that neglect this must not look for the kind showers of divine grace, to give fruitfulness to their souls. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
That which is upon the bridle, etc... The golden ornaments of the bridles, etc., shall be turned into offerings in the house of God. And there shall be an abundance of caldrons and phials for the sacrifices of the temple; by which is meant, under a figure, the great resort there shall be to the temple, that is, to the church of Christ, and her sacrifice. The merchant shall be no more, etc... Or, as some render it, The Chanaanite shall be no more, etc., that is, the profane and unbelievers shall have no title to be in the house of the Lord. Or there shall be no occasion for buyers or sellers of oxen, or sheep, or doves, in the house of God, such as Jesus Christ cast out of the temple. Commentary on the Old Testament (1752)
