1 ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυιδ ὁ κύριος ἐβασίλευσεν ὀργιζέσθωσαν λαοί ὁ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῶν χερουβιν σαλευθήτω ἡ γῆ 2 κύριος ἐν Σιων μέγας καὶ ὑψηλός ἐστιν ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς λαούς 3 ἐξομολογησάσθωσαν τῷ ὀνόματί σου τῷ μεγάλῳ ὅτι φοβερὸν καὶ ἅγιόν ἐστιν 4 καὶ τιμὴ βασιλέως κρίσιν ἀγαπᾷ σὺ ἡτοίμασας εὐθύτητας κρίσιν καὶ δικαιοσύνην ἐν Ιακωβ σὺ ἐποίησας 5 ὑψοῦτε κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν καὶ προσκυνεῖτε τῷ ὑποποδίῳ τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἅγιός ἐστιν 6 Μωυσῆς καὶ Ααρων ἐν τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ Σαμουηλ ἐν τοῖς ἐπικαλουμένοις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐπεκαλοῦντο τὸν κύριον καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπήκουσεν αὐτῶν 7 ἐν στύλῳ νεφέλης ἐλάλει πρὸς αὐτούς ἐφύλασσον τὰ μαρτύρια αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ προστάγματα ἃ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς 8 κύριε ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν σὺ ἐπήκουες αὐτῶν ὁ θεός σὺ εὐίλατος ἐγίνου αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐκδικῶν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα αὐτῶν 9 ὑψοῦτε κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν καὶ προσκυνεῖτε εἰς ὄρος ἅγιον αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἅγιος κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν

1 The Lord has reigned, let the people be angry: he that sits on the cherubims: let the earth be moved. 2 The lord is great in Sion, and high above all people. 3 Let them give praise to your great name: for it is terrible and holy: 4 And the king's honour loves judgment. You have prepared directions: you have done judgment and justice in Jacob. 5 Exalt the Lord our God, and adore his footstool, for it is holy. 6 Moses and Aaron among his priests: and Samuel among them that call upon his name. They called upon the Lord, and he heard them: 7 He spoke to them in the pillar of the cloud. They kept his testimonies, and the commandment which he gave them. 8 You heard them, O Lord our God: you were a merciful God to them, and taking vengeance on all their inventions. 9 Exalt the Lord our God, and adore at his holy mountain: for the Lord our God is holy.

Custodiebant testimonia ejus, et præceptum quod dedit illis. 8 Domine Deus noster, tu exaudiebas eos; Deus, tu propitius fuisti eis, et ulciscens in omnes adinventiones eorum. 9 Exaltate Dominum Deum nostrum, et adorate in monte sancto ejus, quoniam sanctus Dominus Deus noster.

Adore his footstool... The ark of the covenant was called, in the Old Testament, God's footstool: over which he was understood to sit, on his propitiatory, or mercy seat, as on a throne, between the wings of the cherubims, in the sanctuary: to which the children of Israel paid a great veneration. But as this psalm evidently relates to Christ, and the New Testament, where the ark has no place, the holy fathers understand this text, of the worship paid by the Church to the body and blood of Christ in the sacred mysteries: inasmuch as the humanity of Christ is, as it were, the footstool of the divinity. Moses and Aaron among his priests... By this it is evident, that Moses also was a priest, and indeed the chief priest, inasmuch as he consecrated Aaron, and offered sacrifice for him. Leviticus 8.
